Lost in Translation

LOST IN TRANSLATION

(2003) dir. by Sofia Coppola

Brief: Redesign a film poster and incorporate a handmade element.

Solution: Sofia Coppola's Lost in Translation (2003) depicts the abrupt adventure of two American strangers getting lost in Tokyo. The meaning behind the plot suggests that the characters are also feeling lost in life. The film explores the mentality of us versus them, and the failure to live up to the roles expected from society.
There are three layers of contrast in this poster: 1) the physical appearances of the two characters, 2) the text vs. image, 3) and the Japanese vs. American culture. To come up with the Japanese text, I pulled keywords from the movie and translated them using Google Translate.
